Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) is a structured approach to supporting individuals who have been exposed to trauma in the workplace. Originally developed for the military TRiM is now widely used across a variety of emergency services to provide psychological support after critical incidents.
It involves a systematic assessment and structured sessions designed to identify those at risk of developing trauma-related stress, offering immediate intervention and helping individuals recover and manage their mental health.
The TRiM process focuses on early identification and intervention, ensuring that individuals receive the right support at the earliest possible stage. Our service offers confidential, peer-supported and professional sessions that allow individuals to discuss their traumatic experiences in a safe and supportive environment, reducing the risk of long-term psychological impact.
These sessions are specifically designed to provide targeted support to individuals who have been involved in traumatic incidents in their line of work. By offering these services, we aim to improve mental wellbeing, support recovery and reduce the impact of trauma.
Following a traumatic incident, affected individuals will participate in confidential one-on-one TRiM interviews with qualified practitioners. These interviews provide a safe space to discuss the traumatic event, assess the psychological impact and identify early signs of stress or trauma. The interviews are conducted with empathy and professionalism to ensure a supportive environment for recovery.
Peer support is a central element of the TRiM process. Trained peer supporters—colleagues who have received specific TRiM training—offer initial informal support to those affected. Peer support helps to reduce stigma and encourages individuals to seek further help if necessary. It creates a culture of openness and resilience within teams.
Following a critical incident our TRiM practitioners offer psychological support tailored to each individual. This support is provided in a manner that is both immediate and ongoing, helping individuals process the trauma and access additional mental health services if needed.
Recovery from trauma does not end with the initial session. We offer follow-up TRiM sessions to ensure that individuals receive continuous support and monitoring. This ensures that any emerging psychological issues are addressed before they become more serious and that affected individuals remain supported throughout their recovery journey
In cases where further psychological intervention is required our TRiM practitioners are able to refer individuals to mental health specialists such as psychologists, therapists or counsellors ensuring that they receive the necessary clinical care. We work closely with external professionals to ensure a seamless transition into long-term care if required.
Early intervention is critical when addressing trauma. Left unaddressed, trauma can lead to severe mental health conditions, such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression and burnout. By providing immediate structured support through our TRiM sessions we help mitigate these risks, ensuring that individuals receive the care they need at the earliest possible stage.
